In the summer of 1997, Joe Cassada and his wife Kyla moved to the Saint Louis region with the vision to reach the area with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Solid Rock Baptist Church was birthed soon after their arrival, along with their first child Noah.
During those first few months, the church moved from a conference center, to a store front, and finally, with financial assistance from Arnold Baptist Tabernacle, Solid Rock purchased its first building: a small frame church house in Rock Hill, Missouri. The Rock Hill location was the church’s home until 2006, when Solid Rock sold its building and temporarily moved to a local school.
Meanwhile, another church, Maryland Heights Bible Church, prepared to close its doors after 6 decades of Gospel ministry. By the providential leading of God, the two churches were introduced to each other through the services of a Christian real estate agent. In July of 2007, Maryland Heights Bible Church and Solid Rock Baptist Church became one church family. The old Gospel lighthouse at 150 Reading Avenue was able to keep its doors open, and a young church was finally able to move into a permanent home.
We give God the glory for the diversity in our churches’ histories. One is a brief testimony to God’s provision in times of uncertainty; the other is a legacy to God’s faithfulness to His people for many years.
Solid Rock Baptist Church is excited about serving God now and for many years to come.
